Phil Zerkel was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He was raised in a family passionate about the exploration and understanding of the outdoors. His mother is an avid gardener and naturalist who taught him about flora and fauna - his father is a carpenter cum civil engineer. These influenced his path into environmental engineering and rural site construction.

Before coming to Mother Earth Engineering Phil developed off the grid homesteads throughout Sonoma and Mendocino Counties – designing and building roads, cabins, irrigation systems, off-grid energy and solar systems. Additionally, he has done conventional commercial build outs and home remodels throughout Northern California.

Phil’s current interests are in watershed stewardship, low impact development, riding his bike, making music, and having fun in the sun.
